SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): MetalX announced that it has completed the acquisition of the assets and businesses of Kendallville, Indiana-headquartered aluminium shredding business, Metal Shred Industries LLC (MSI). The acquisition will provide big boost to its efforts to develop new and more refined scrap aluminium products. It must be noted that MSI shreds scrap aluminium on a toll basis for a wide range of customers.

According to company press release, MetalX intends to maintain MSI’s current toll processing relationships and volumes. In addition, it will expand the scope of operations to include open market purchases. MetalX plans to double the processing volumes at the facility from existing 20 million pounds to around 40 million pounds per year. The name MSI will be retired and the facility will be identified as MetalX with immediate effect.

The addition of the operation fits perfectly into MetalX’s aluminium strategy. MSI’s solid reputation and stable customer base is a credit to the expertise and customer focus of its employees, said Danny Rifkin, CEO, MetalX.

Gil Spilman of MSI noted that he is pleased with the transaction and look forward to an expanded business relationship with MetalX. The transaction will allow it to concentrate on our aluminum melting operations at nearby Aluminum Recovery Technologies, while maintaining close working relations with MetalX, he added.
