SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): OceanaGold Corporation announced that the United States Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) has issued the Supplementary Environmental Impact Statement Record of Decision (SEIS ROD) and granted a permit under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act (404 Permit) to it for the expansion of the Haile Gold Mine in South California.
With the receipt of the SEIS ROD and 404 Permit, the company has successfully completed the federal permitting process for the Haile expansion.
It must be noted that the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) had recently issued the Mine Operating Permit (MOP). The permit is due to become final after a 15-day statutory period. This should complete the state permitting process as well.

The receipt of the permits allows the company to proceed with development and operation of the underground mine and construction of additional waste containment facilities and expanded tailings storage capacity.
Gerard Bond, President and CEO, OceanaGold noted that the receipt of the permits represents a significant milestone for OceanaGold, helping it to deliver increased gold production and lower unit costs. Furthermore, it will contribute towards pursuing further opportunities to profitably extend the mine life, he added.
