Airlines Reporting Corp.-accredited travel agency air ticket sales for June 2022 totaled $7.9 billion, an 87 percent increase year over year, but a 6 percent dip from the more than $8 billion total recorded in May, ARC reported Thursday.

The June average U.S. roundtrip air ticket price was $605, a 33 percent increase from June 2021, and a 4 percent decrease from the May 2022 average. Total passenger trips were down 5 percent from May with U.S. domestic trips down 4 percent and international trips down 7 percent.

“In pre-pandemic years, we typically saw an 8 percent to 12 percent decline in total sales and passenger trips from May to June,” ARC VP of global customers and data products Steve Solomon said in a statement. “The smaller month-over-month decline in total sales and passenger trips shows air travel demand remains strong for both domestic and international itineraries.”

Total passenger trips settled by ARC in June increased 23 percent year over year to 21.6 million from 17.5 million, led by a 52 percent increase for the period in international trips to 7.9 million. U.S. domestic trips increased 11 percent to 13.7 million over the same period.

Electronic miscellaneous document sales, which include fees for such ancillary products as upgraded seats and checked bags, increased 67 percent year over year to $13.7 million. EMD transactions increased 37 percent to 233,258 compared to a year prior.
