Elon Musk Sleeps Next To Guns, Diet Coke And This Tibetan Ritual Object — But Coasters Find No Place On The Bedside Table - Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL)

Elon Musk, who leads Twitter, SpaceX, and Tesla, has an eclectic array of items on his bedside table.

What Happened: Musk posted a photo of the table next to his bedstead on Monday. Items that can be seen in the image include four cans of Diet Coke, two guns — one kept in a case with a painting of Washington crossing the Delaware river — and a mystical object with Indian and Tibetan origins.

The Vajra, as it is known in Sanskrit, or Dorjee as it is called in Tibetan, is a ritual weapon symbolizing a thunderbolt. It is used in a number of South Asian-origin religions as a symbol of spiritual power.

Referring to the weapons, Musk said “Greetings, I’m Musket, Elon Musket.” He also said there was “no excuse for the lack of coaster.”

A Twitter user said that Musk posted a “picture of a toy gun without a trigger.”

Why It Matters: Musk is not the only high-profile U.S. businessperson to have shown interest in eastern spirituality. Apple Inc AAPL co-founder Steve Jobs also spent time in India seeking enlightenment.

On gun control, Musk said  in the wake of a mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, “What is a reasonable way to make it harder for people with homicidal impulses to obtain body count maximizing weapons?”

At the time, the entrepreneur pitched for a licensing standard for the purchase of semi-automatic rifles.
