Exclusive: Oil Rich In Cannabinoids — Biotech Co. Gets U.S. Patent For Novel Extraction Process Using High Heat & Cannabis Smoke

Biotech company Real Isolates confirmed Monday it has been issued a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a novel method used to extract cannabinoids and other compounds from cannabis smoke. The Beverly, Massachusetts-based company said that by using this method, the extracted oil is rich in common and rare cannabinoids, allowing for the creation of a new category of oral, topical, and inhaled marijuana products.

The oil would be sold and licensed under the brand name Smokenol.

“Our solventless method is not just a simpler and safer alternative to CO2 or hydrocarbon extraction,” stated Michiel Westerkamp, CEO of Real Isolates. “The majority of experienced cannabis users prefer the effects of cannabis smoke to conventional edibles. This patented method allows hemp and cannabis product manufacturers to deliver edible, topical, and inhalable products that combine convenience, duration, and dose consistency with effects similar to those from smoking.”

Real Isolates highlighted that the standard cannabis extracts utilize low temperatures which results in low diversity and balance of cannabinoids compared to Skmokenol smoke extracts and cannabis extract. Its method uses high heat to transform CBD and other cannabinoids into many other cannabinoids, creating a richer and much more diverse profile of active ingredients.

The company licenses this intellectual property to product manufacturers.
