ArcelorMittal Launched Trial Use of Low-Carbon Steel in Auto Parts


ArcelorMittal Europe aims to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 35% by 2030 and to attain carbon neutrality by 2050.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): ArcelorMittal Europe- Flat Products announced that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gonvarri Industries, aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions and strengthening the sustainability performance of both the companies in the automotive market. It must be noted that Gonvarri Industries is a key customer of ArcelorMittal Europe- Flat Products.

The agreement was signed by Yves Koeberle, CEO, ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products and Jon Riberas, Executive Chairman, Gonvarri Industries at a function held in Madrid, Spain on 9th January, 2023.

As per agreement, the two companies will co-operate on common sustainability projects and identify ways to strengthen the circular economy.

ArcelorMittal Europe aims to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 35% by 2030 and to attain carbon neutrality by 2050. Gonvarri Industries has announced its commitment to reduce its Scope 1 carbon dioxide emissions by 50% and Scope 2 emissions by 2030. In addition, it has committed to carbon neutrality by 2050.

Yves Koeberle noted that it is an important milestone day for the company. Furthermore, he thanked Gonvarri for their support and commitment to the project. Meantime, Jon Riberas said that the MoU with its main supplier and partner will create an enhanced framework to advance its decarbonisation efforts.
