B-Stock's Summer Teammate Spotlight 2022: Meet Jessica Huang

B-Stock is so excited to welcome Jessica Huang to the Product team this summer! As a summer teammate, we know Jessica will be an incredible asset to the company. Jessica is currently studying Cognitive Science at Rice University. Learn a bit more about Jessica and see their answers to some questions below.

Q: What are you most excited to learn at B-Stock?

I’m excited to learn about the end-to-end product development process and the role that data plays in influencing design decisions. From product analysts to product managers to engineers, I’m looking forward to collaborating on a cross-functional team and contributing to a mission that helps people and the earth.

Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? (Or still want to be!)

When I was a kid, I loved animals and wanted to be a veterinarian! (hoping to become a dog owner in the future)

Q: What is one piece of advice you’ve been given that has stuck?

“The minute you start caring about what other people think is the minute you stop being yourself.”

Q: Where can people find you after work or school?

Choosing a few, new ingredients from the grocery store and cooking or baking up a new recipe! I always love trying new foods.

Q: What is a hidden talent of yours?

I played violin for 13 years, so I have perfect pitch (mostly for violin).

Q: What plays in the background while you work (music genre, podcast, news)?

Music lyrics tend to distract me while I work, so I usually listen to lofi hip-hop or classical music.

Q: Where would you go with unlimited PTO?

Switzerland for the scenery, Korea for the food 🙂

Q: What do you do when you’re stuck creatively? How do you get the creative juices flowing?

I like to take a walk and get some fresh air, maybe do some yoga. Leaving my desk for a while helps me tackle a problem with a fresh perspective.

Q: What’s something you’ve accomplished that you’re proud of?

As a designer, I contributed to a ride-sharing web application project called Rice Carpool for students at my university. It was my first time working on a team alongside PMs and developers while creating designs that had a real impact on students’ lives. We had over 1k site visitors and 80 users within the first week.

Q: What is one thing you hope to contribute to B-Stock?

As a product design intern, I’m excited to contribute to B-Stock’s design systems and collaborate with the design team to improve client experience on B-Stock’s marketplaces.

If you’re interested in B-Stock’s internship program, please contact [email protected] or reach out on LinkedIn!
