Metal Recycler Installed New System to Boost Metal Recovery

The authorities ensured that strict dust control mechanisms and noise limitations will be carried out while demolition.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to media reports, General Iron’s Lincoln Park metal shredding and recycling facility will be demolished.

The facility had stopped operations in January last year, following a series of health-related complaints raised by de residents in connection with the facility. The site had reported a major explosion in 2020, for which it was fined $18,000. Also, it was badly hit by a fire afterwards.

Reserve Management Group-General Iron’s parent company had tried relocating the metal shredding operations to East Side of the city, but it had failed to obtain final approval from Chicago health authorities, following a study which predicted serious concerns regarding air, water and soil pollution to the neighbourhood.

As per City authorities, the demolition of the remaining buildings is expected to begin shortly after Thanksgiving and will be completed within four to six weeks. The demolition plans will be placed before the residents on Nov. 18 for discussion. It must be noted that the metal shredder facility has already been disassembled.

The authorities ensured that strict dust control mechanisms and noise limitations will be carried out while demolition. There will be no detonations or use of explosives to topple the structures. The demolition will be carried out in a piece-by-piece manner.
