SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): General Motors (GM) Canada has entered into a partnership deal with ERS International- the e-waste recycling division of Toronto-based Sparta Group. Accordingly, ERS will recycle electronics from the car manufacturer’s manufacturing facility in Oshawa, Ontario. This path breaking deal would result in diversion of thousands of tonnes of waste from landfills.
ERS, with processing facility in Toronto, will recycle electronics from the GM facility. It will track the materials throughout the recycling process and provide GM with necessary certificates of destruction. In addition to Oshawa production lines, ERS will also handle e-waste recycling services for GM’s administrative department in Oshawa. The partnership is considered part of GM’s ongoing sustainability efforts.
Commenting on the deal, John O’Bireck, President and CTO, Sparta Group noted that the agreement with GM will provide the company with added streams of revenue and allow it to divert thousands of tonnes of waste from landfills. The advanced laboratory facility at its North American e-waste recycling facility ensures efficient extraction of valuable metals including gold, silver and palladium.
