Roland Harings, Chief Executive Officer, Aurubis, recently announced investments totalling around €530 million towards expansion projects at its Richmond, Georgia recycling plant as well in projects underway at its facilities elsewhere in Pirdop, Bulgaria, and Hamburg. The company will invest in migration to a new platform, which will help it to harmonize its smelter operations.

The Richmond facility was initially designed to process 90,000 tonnes of recycling material. The expansion will double the processing capacity to 180,000 tonnes, thus boosting the annual production of blister copper from the facility to more than 70,000 tonnes. The first phase of the expansion is well on track, with full ramp up expected in 2025. Te ramp-up to full Phase-2 capacity is expected to reach completion by H2 2026.

Also, Aurubis promised investments aimed at boosting production at its Complex Recycling Hamburg (CRH) project, which in turn will result in significant expansion to its metallurgical capabilities.

In addition, the company will invest €12 million towards expansion of its photovoltaic plant in Pirdop, expanding the capacity from current levels of 4 MWh of energy per year to 24 MWh per year.
