Spotlight Linde: Enabling the Transition to Clean Energy


Linde is the largest industrial gas company worldwide and an innovator in the highly engineered technologies used to deliver gas to customers. With a mission to enable the transition to clean energy, Linde completed its merger with Praxis in 2018, and today supplies oxygen to hospitals, purified gas to electronics manufacturers, and hydrogen for clean fuels. Last month the UK-based company announced plans to increase supplies of helium, nitrogen and oxygen in the US in order to support demand from its many customers in the aerospace, petrochemicals, clean energy, electronics, healthcare and manufacturing industries.

The company was founded in 1879 in Germany when Carl Linde brought together a group of partners to fund his breakthrough mechanical refrigeration system for the beer brewing industry. Since then, this Knowledge Leader has amassed 140 years of technological progress. For example, the firm has developed a unique expertise in designing and building sustainable plants for producing and processing gases that avoid, capture and use carbon emissions. The firm’s R&D is primarily conducted in Germany, the US and China, and is focused on the future of gas processing, separation and liquification technologies, clean energy technologies, and innovating ways to distribute industrial gases. Speaking of which, Linde makes and distributes its products through an extensive network of plants and pipelines and considers these networks to be a competitive advantage.
