SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Turkish scrap imports recorded decline during the initial eleven month period of 2022.

According to latest statistics published by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers’ Association (TCUD), the country imported around 19.7 million tons of scrap during Jan-Nov ’22, registering a decline by 12.8% compared with the corresponding period a year before. The value of imports, at approximately $9.3 billion, was down by 7% over the previous year, data said.

The top three sources of import were the EU, the U.S. and the UK. Turkey imported around 10.5 million tons of scrap until November 2022, down by 9.7% from the prior year. The U.S. supplied around 3.67 million tons, falling by 7.2% year-on-year. The imports from UK witnessed notable decline by almost 20% year-on-year to total 1.7 million tons.

Meantime, the Turkish scrap imports totalled around 1.3 million tons in the month of November 2022 alone. This was down by 8.2% when compared with the month before that, TCUD data noted.

Other major ferrous scrap importing countries including Taiwan and Pakistan too reported notable dip in imports during the first eleven months of the previous year. While Taiwan’s imports recorded 7% year-on-year decline until November 2022, the imports by Pakistan nosedived 55% during the month.
