AISI: U.S. Raw Steel Output Posted Notable Dip

The U.S. produced 6.4 Mt of steel, down by 10.5% year-on-year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has released the list of top 10 steel producing nations during the month of November this year.

China topped the list, with the country’s output edging higher by 7.3% over the previous year. The country’s crude steel output totalled 74.5 Mt during the month. The cumulative output during the first eleven months of the current year totalled 935.1 Mt, down marginally by 1.4% over the corresponding eleven-month period in 2021.

India’s estimated output, at 10.4 Mt, recorded a surge by 5.7% over November last year. The country produced 114.2 Mt of steel during Jan-Nov ’22, significantly higher by 6.0% over the previous year.  Incidentally, India emerged as one of the three countries in the top ten list to report year-on-year surge in output, the others being China and Iran. The Japanese output dipped sharply by 10.7% during the month to total 7.2 Mt, while its cumulative yearly output until November 2022 was down by 6.9% over Jan-Nov ’21 to total 82.3 Mt.

The U.S. produced 6.4 Mt of steel, down by 10.5% year-on-year. Russia is estimated to have produced 5.6 Mt, down by 9.6% year-on-year. The output by other countries in the top ten list in Mt is as follows: South Korea (4.8), Germany (2.8), Turkey (2.4), Brazil (2.6) and Iran (2.9).

Turkey recorded highest decline in steel output during the month, with its output recording drastic cut by 30.7% year-on-year.
